Redirection Impact on SEO
Hi Koushik, May I know inner URLs of "/us" and "/global" pages ? Both have same content or different content ? And about IP based redirection. Here is the solution : http://www.seomoz.org/q/ip-redirection-vs-cloaking-no-clear-directives-from-google

Uservoice and Duplicate Page Content
Hi Jon, I have just checked this URL : http://ideas.salesloft.com/forums/140374-general/ , there buttons of hot, top, new to filter it out. In this canonical implementation is the best solution in your case. Put canonical tag in hot, top, new page for original URL which is http://ideas.salesloft.com/forums/140374-general/ in above case.

I am cleaning up a clients link profile and am coming across a lot of directories (no surprise) My question is if an obvious fre for all generic directory doesn't look to have been hit by any updates is it a wise move recommending tit for removal?
I agree with Mark Scully on this one, but would like to add some thoughts: If you are looking to clean out your backlink profile you should go about it in a very methodical fashion. I would recommend exporting the links to an Excel file and then, in a new sheet, start skimming and categorizing them -needs more research; relevant; potentially harmful; show stopper. It will be time consuming but once you have a basic categorization set you can start reaching out. There is a real possibility that many of the directory links are from neglected and orphaned directories and that the contact e-mail may not be in operation anymore. When you find this to be the case, note it on your categorized Excel sheet. Note the date you sent the link removal request and note the response; if there is no response, note that as well. Be realistic concerning the expected reply time (this is a big deal to you; it is probably not a big deal to those hosting the directories) and send out second and third requests. If it was me, I would concentrate on the two most harmful categories and give them a real thorough going through. After a few weeks (I know, it's a long-ish project) you should have a nice detailed actions-taken report and should feel comfortable utilizing the disavow links tool if needed. Note: This tool, from what I understand, is not a click-and-fix and you will need to have a file of the links you would like disavowed to upload to Google for review. Barry Schwartz, over at seroundtable.com, has a nice post concerning this and he supplies an example of what a disavow report might look like: [image: disavow-file-1350481037.png] Watch the video by Matt Cutts explaining the tool and use it with caution and only as a last resort; don't spam them with reports. One final note: Some of these links may not be harming you as of now. Use your best judgement and ask yourself this question: "if I knew another penguin update was coming tomorrow, would having this link cause me to worry?" It isn't always a straightforward answer, but if you find yourself stretching and searching for a rational to view the link as relevant or user-centric, then it probably isn't. I am sure there is plenty more to say on the topic, and I hope some others chime in with their thoughts. It's time to earn that paycheck. Keep us posted, and happy digging.

Whitespace INSIDE # tag harmful?
Thanks Lewis. I think this video is commenting more about whitespace outside tags than inside them, but I think the same principle applies. Unless I hear that it does cause issues, for now I'll leave it in and fight other battles with the dev team. Thanks

Keep getting random broken links pointed at our website
Nope, ignore them, if they are low quality scraper sites or other garbage. Consider how these sites look to Google - tons of crappy content, tons of outbound broken links etc. Not easy to discount these and if they are pointing at pages that don't exist, it is not exactly manipulative and any value they would have passed would be lost in a 404 shaped hole anyhow. Only thing I would consider doing is always using a full link in your content, that is including the domain rather than site relative with the root slash (/). so, http://www.mysite.com/category/page.html rather than /category/page.html Then, scraped links should work - not that they will do you any benefit but you never know. Hope that helps! Marcus

Google Sitelinks
Jason, log in to Google Webmaster tools and there is a section for sitelinks. What you have to do is 'demote' the sitelinks you DON'T want to appear. In this case these would be about us, contact us etc. As time goes on these pages will probably (it's not always guaranteed) be replaced as a sitelink by another page. You have to continue to demote pages that you dont want to appear until the right ones appear. Of course, you can just demote a bunch of pages before they even appear to save time. This process can take a while and is not always 100%. The best way to get each of these individual lawyer pages to appear is to build up the authority of these pages with backlinks etc, coupled with the above technique. Good luck!

301 redirects and seo..
I am still not convinced. Their are 2 ways to do the 301 redirect. _ All files get redirected to the new extension site.com/filexyz.php > filexyz.html The other is the 301 in which you specify each individual page and its new location. I did the first method and php pages no longer in google, html are in google but i lost about 50%traffic. Is this normal or should i have done 301 individual pages?

Techniques for diagnosing duplicate content
Like Kev - wrap a few lines of content in quotation marks, this method usually works well when looking for duplicate content on a blog. Sometimes use it if someone is supplying content as well to make sure it's completely unique. You could also site:www.yoursite.com and click your way to the very last page, you might see a omitted results link. Sometimes duplicate pages are in hear as well because they are very close/same as another page.

Moving an eCommerce Site to Wordpress
Couple hints - Do your content migration quick as possible. Use WordPress 'Site Maintainance' plug In. As mentioned before - your categories should go more than 3 levels deep. Remember correct permalink structure Of course keyword targeted meta tags for each product and page Most likely you will experience shift and gap between your rankings but if you will keep the same direction before - I would say you will be back in your prevent position after a 3.4 days and if you will use SEO plugins and will do everything correctly - you will outperform your previous site greatly! Good luck with the new platform! Jungles

Kill your htaccess file, take the risk to learn a little
Interesting post. Yeah, the .htaccess file is the most important file out there and it is easy to mess up (as I am sure most everyone has at one time or another).

How to redirect the 404 errors to 404.php file
Here's a helpful page that describes what you can do: http://www.mcanerin.com/EN/articles/301-redirect-404-error.asp For example, if you have an .htaccess file, you can add this line to the file: ErrorDocument 404 /404.php Hope this helps!

Keyword targeting & differentiation between similar keywords
Are you clearing your catch before checking you rankings? Are you logged onto your google account? I like to check my keywords in a browser that I usually dont use, I make sure to be logged off of any Google account and I clear all my browser data. This way I allways get the accurate SERP. If this is not the case then you are experiencing "the google dance" which is vary rare. I would guess the browser has stored data showing you personalized results.

Canonicalization - Some advice needed :)
Seems like Matt and Marcus have you on the right track. With a real-estate site, duplicates and near-duplicates are very common, since you're adding and removing properties all the time and there are many search options and categories. I do agree that search-friendly URLs, long-term, where each property has a fixed URL, are definitely the best bet. In the meantime, though, a solid canonical structure helps a lot. Ease into it - don't go sitewide in one fell swoop without a plan, unless you're having clear ranking problems. Start with your biggest problem areas, monitor/measure, and work from there. You can always check for indexed duplicates by running a Google search like: site:daft.ie intitle:"176 Rathgar Road" In this case, I'm not seeing any index issues, although I think Matt's concerns are valid. I'd also consider rel=prev/next for search results pages, as that can help focus Google, too. Again, take it one step at a time and start with the biggest problems. It'll mitigate your risk all around.

Categories and rel canonical
While I think keyword cannibalization is a valid concern, it's natural for there to be some overlap when a site is clearly focused on a topic. I hate to over-generalize, but my gut reaction is that the home-page and a single category page aren't a big problem. Sure, they'll compete a little, but we're only talking about two pages, and the home-page is generally already stronger. I think the canonical might be artificial here (these aren't true duplicates, and it could look a bit odd to Google). I'd think more about how the two pages can co-exist - are their certains aspects of the keyword that one more naturally fits than the other? Could you reflect those in the on-page content/tags (TITLE tag, especially)? If the topic merits an entire site, there almost definitely enough facets to it that two pages can live together perfectly well. Again, don't to over-generalize, but I think you may be worrying too much about this one. If the pages compete in an undesirable way later, you can always add a canonical, but two pages shouldn't be a big issue. Unless I'm misunderstanding, do NOT 301-redirect. That's going to kill your category page, as 301s impact human visitors as well as search bots.

Hello every one please give me idea about offpage techniques for keyword ranking for first page on top 5 all search engine ,and it must be durable for long time. If i will not use on page optimization?
Hi Debal, Maybe I'm interpreting you wrong but there is no quick answer to this. You appear to be ignoring the advice already given to you by Brad. You need to spend more time reading about link building, and more time reading about on-page optimization. There isn't one thing you can do to achieve the rankings you desire. Cheers, Mark
