  • Hi Webious, Please forgive me if this question is basic, but I have to ask before answering in more detail. Did you put either 301 redirects from the old URLs to the new ones or canonical tags on the new URLs (and remove them on the old - if they were there) in place? Dana

  • Hi Moosa, Wow - that is a super helpful answer. I don't know how to install a Drupal modul, but it's great to see there is an easy way to do this. Much appreciated! I'll try and figure out how to install that patch and go from there. Cheers!

  • I cant see why Google would penalise a news site for being indexed in Google News?

  • Hi Daniel, Yeah - I was kind of expecting that kind of a response. It's pretty frustrating really, more because I know I haven't tried to bribe anyone. That being said, if they won't shift, then I'll have to move on. Like you say, I just need to avoid letting it get under my skin. Plenty of other good backlinks out there! It'd just be nice to think I could clear the air with the DMOZ crew! Many thanks, Lewis

  • Hİ Marie, thank you very much for detailed info you have provided. My domain is only 3 months old; and my website is 1 month old. I have done too much of Anchor texting. You can see the work done in majesticseo but the work cannot be seen in OSE. I don know why.. Update: I am now in the 2nd page for online takı word, but on the 13th page for takı. I dont know what is happening in Google

  • Hi guys! For now we don't have any plans to change our ranking tools because this information is valuable to our customers. Plus it really is public information that is relevant to their business and they should have the right to access that. We are however looking at various alternatives and will be actively engaging with PRO members and the general community for a long-term solution. Be sure to watch the blog for more info! Thanks, Jen

  • So you are saying 301 redirects are better? Would amount to 50 redirects (in that ball park). Does not affect google ranking?

  • You're welcome! Just to add some more credibility, the new Matt Cutt's video supports my initial statement. Hope everything went well for you!

  • Not used it myself, but Muse has a bit of a reputation for outputting truly horrendous source code. That is never the best start when building a site.  What I have seen of the output seemed to contain an awful lot of nested DIVs. In itself that isn't a problem, but it really bloated the code which isn't great. We used to use Dreamweaver a lot. That has a bit of a name for messy code too, but you can at least control that.  Out of the two I'd opt for Dreamweaver. Given the choice I'd prefer a decent text based IDE.

  • Hi William, First, you are absolutely doing the right thing by creating a subpage dedicated to each location. You should try to add unique content to avoid a duplicate content issue, as well as a map "Google Maps is always good," a local phone number, and the geo-location should be optimized in the content and meta data. One more piece of advice that I picked up at a recent SEO conference, when you create or edit Google+ Local pages, use the subpage for that specific city as that location's website. It will help you rank in the Google+ local rankings. For the 301 redirects, each local website's homepage should probably 301 redirect to that locations subpage on the new website. I normally recommend 1 to 1 redirects, but if there are page on the old website's with links that you do not want to lose and they make sense to redirect tot he new subpage, I would do it. If there are pages that do not make sense to redirect (meaning the subpage on the new website is not what a use would expect to see) and they do not have any links, I would consider using a good 404 page.

  • Yes, you can add that to your robots.txt file and it should slow down the crawl rate. I haven't tested it myself but have seen many instances of it. Let us know how it works out!

  • Well, in theory it's easier to create a http page then it is to create a https page (because of all of the added encryption when sending data via SSL). I would suggest that you discuss this with your designer. If you can get away with non-secure pages, especially if you've got RSS content you're looking to push out, then definitely do. Best of luck, Matt

  • Totally agree, Have seen this a few times in the past. Major SEO changes, big drop in rankings for 2/3 weeks. Then rankings gradually return. @Dana: Keep us posted, im curious to see if in a few weeks time things have improved

  • Coming in late on this thread. There's actually muliple ways to redirect from http to https, depending on your server configuration and so on. It's very possible your developer did set this up in the .htaccess file. If a 301 isn't defined (or none is defined) I believe it can default to a 302. I see Sanket has volunteered his help. Yay! Let us know what you find or if you need any help.

  • Hi Henrik, It can take up to a week for SEOmoz crawlers to process your site, which may be an issue if you recently added the tag. Did you remember to include all user agents in your first line? User-agent: * Be sure to test your robots.txt file in Google Webmaster Tools to ensure everything is correct. Couple of other things you can do: 1. Add a rel="nofollow" on your send to friend links. 2.  Add a meta robots "noindex" to the head of the popup html. 3. And/or add a canonical tag to the popup. Since I don't have a working example, I don't know what to canonical it too (whatever content it is duplicating) but this is also an option.
