Javascript redirects -- what are the SEO pitfalls?
My $0.02 is that javascript might work for your site, but it's not going to give you the benefits that 301 redirects will offer to you. According to Google's Official Webmaster Central Blog, as of May 23, 2014, Google is able to execute Javascript: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.ca/2014/05/understanding-web-pages-better.html That said, if you have your javascript or CSS in separate files, and are blocked with robots.txt, according to Google, they won't be able to execute it. And according to the post, they can't process all javascript. It's not a bad thing to have 404 pages for pages that you want to kill off and let die. If you do have important inbound links, though, it's better to 301 redirect them and keep 85% of the link strength. More backup on this: According to Rand Fishkin's Moz blog writeup, Are 404 Pages Always Bad for SEO? http://moz.com/blog/are-404-pages-always-bad-for-seo "When faced with 404s, my thinking is that unless the page: A) Receives important links to it from external sources (Google Webmaster Tools is great for this) B) Is receiving a substantive quantity of visitor traffic and/or C) Has an obvious URL that visitors/links intended to reach It's OK to let it 404." According to Moz's Redirection SEO Best Practice: http://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection ... you want to use a 301 redirect to indicate that the content has moved permanently. I hope this helps! -- Jeff

Sitemap Generator Tool
Try the DYNO Mapper sitemap generator. It creates a visual sitemap and displays content inventory, Google Analytics integration, and lets you collaborate with other users. watch?v=kjFBnQCoxjI

Best Dynamic Sitemap Generator
I use DYNO Mapper exclusively. It is the best dynamic Sitemap Generator that I have used so far. I have used powermapper & slickplan in the past, but I like DYNO Mapper because it has some cool extra features like content audits capability and inventory display. It is also integrated with Google Analytics and displays this data on each page of the sitemap. watch?v=kjFBnQCoxjI

Why has my site dropped out of search rankings?
For the record, this is a great answer. OP, you were initially penalised for poor links, and did the right thing in removing said spammy links. However, who's to say that whilst those links were propping you up **before **the penalty and helping you rank, now that those links have disappeared, you've got a very sparse link profile and need to start linkbuilding all over again. Just make sure you build links 'naturally' this time.

Fullsite=true coming up as duplicate content?
Not sure what the "fullsite=true" for distinguishing mobile vs desktop is about.. can't you link to an article that describes this? As far as I know, Google cannot understand that. See Google's official suggestions for mobile websites here - https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details

Rel=canonical - Identical .com and .us Version of Site
Rel=canonical is great for helping search engines serve the correct language or regional URL to searchers, but I'm not sure how it would work for two sites both purposed for the US (.us and .com). What's the thought behind having two sites - is the .us site intended for Google US searches and .com the default for anything outside of the US? Are there language variations? What are the different "locations" you're referring to?

How Does Dynamic Content for a Specific URL Impact SEO?
Do you only change it depending on the Canadian location? What do you do for US visitors? Googlebot sees what you give to people in the US. Here is what they see, which is what I see viewing the page from Texas. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:nBPI0a8zKqQJ:www.sja.ca/English/Community-Services/Pages/Therapy%2520Dog%2520Services/default.aspx+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us I assume there is content on this page other than what I am seeing. So duplicate content is not your problem, lack of content is. Google operates on a per country basis, but even knowing that I would still suggest different pages for different regions if the content is really different.

Change E-commerce Plataform... redirect urls... and images?
Yes I would definitely link back the images to the new site so you can make sure that if they have any link juice they still will have when they're redirected.

Redundant Hostnames Issue in GA
Rewrites are generally regarded as the best way to handle this kind of redirect, but your DNS provider likely has their own redirect system in place that can implement the same functionality without modifying your site's .htaccess. Same result, different technique. The reason I use my DNS with a "www" subdomain record to forward to my non-www domain is because WordPress sometimes has issues with using RewriteRule. It seems to break permalinks. I always just set it once with my DNS host and never think about it again.

The importance of url's - are they that important?
David/MaxOnce again, thank you very much for such detailed information. This has been really helpful and I'm truly grateful. I do have one more question if I may. The main primary domain name contains the word "wood" - is it really essential to contain the word "wood" into "sub categories" also (as seen below)? You can see how we're planning to structure the site. Many of our key words have the word wood, so for obvious reasons this term is essential. Clients domain expired - rankings lost - repurchased domain - what next?
Hmm, yeah this is not the best position you want to be in. I would make sure that your Web site is listed in both Google Webmaster Tools as Bing Webmaster Tools. If you already are I would also really submit my sitemaps like 20 times to be sure that Google is aware that your pages need to be recrawled again in the hope that they then also will index them again and hope they will put them back on their old positions.

How to set up internal linking with subcategories?
It seems like you are actually asking 2 questions in one. Let's approach them both separately. Should you include index.html or not in your structure? Personally, I think the cleanest URL structure works the best. Get rid of any URL parameters that do not offer any benefit. Cleaner URLs not only look better, but are easier to read and share. Who really wants to share DOMAIN.com/fishing.index.html vs DOMAIN.com/fishing. It may seem petty, but in the grander scheme of things it will just work better. If you do this in one area of your site, keep it consistant through the whole site As to making sure that Google only indexes one version, this can be done through the URL parameter redirects on your server. You can create rules where the URL automatically strips out any additional URL items, and redirects to the proper version. Once you create your sitemap, make sure to only include the versions of your URL you want indexed. One thing I have found in my entire SEO career is this: The easier and clearer you paint a picture for Google about your site, the better your results will be.

CDATA WooCommerce
Check the content of your "ecomm_prodid" parameter, usually the source of all nightmares. When you include multiple product id you need to format it properly, and google example is wrong and missing a comma. I just googled to search for a good example: http://marketlytics.com/setup-adwords-dynamic-remarketing-using-tag-manager/

Why are only a few of our pages being indexed
Thanks for this. The /item-details/ are linked to from the Auction pages (e.g: https://www.wilkinsons-auctioneers.co.uk/auction-items/?id=13) We've looked into the canonical issue and sorted that out, so fingers crossed on that being the issue. I'm only really familiar with canonical being a pain with ecommerce sites, but I know to keep an eye on it for others sites we have using parameters/custom pages.

Top content keyword in WMT is crap
That looks to be a good solution. Behind the scenes the plugin will be adding "Options -Indexes" to your .htaccess file, which you could do directly and skip the need for a plugin if you so wish. I am glad I was able to help you.
