  • If the pages have traffic, rankings, etc. then its better to have a relevant one to one redirect instead of letting them 404. Its always better to 301 redirect directly to the relevant page instead of having a chain of redirects to redirects. Having 75 new redirects won't slow down googlebot. It can handle quite a lot.

  • Hi thanks.  And for a landing page.  Should they be long or short. 1000 words or 300 words?  Does google have any preferences for landing pages

  • Many people build custom sites and their SEO presence is just fine... it all depends on what you want out of a website. Couldn't agree more.

  • Hi Dmitry, It should point to the Womens Nike Sandals page because if that is the path the customer has taken to get to the shoe brand page, they may want to go back a step and they would probably want to go back to the generic womens nike sandals page. Breadcrumb is usually created by the path the user takes but it can be changed if you REALLY want it to, but I wouldn't advise it.

  • Thanks Tom - that was what I was hoping! Am I right in thinking the main things to un-index are: Internal SERP pages Internal category pages (eg http://www.merlin.org.uk/category/floods) Duplicate pages from pagination etc All the best and many thanks.

  • Hi Jesse, Now your talking! I'd say I agree with you know on this - it may not have much value in terms of aiding a sites rank, but then again it may have some slight advantage in terms of rankings - as long as its played by the book, is relevant, not stuffed and is in line with all the other on-page 'best practices'. It certainly wont hurt.

  • That's weird, try the following: -Click over the URL and see if it allows you to change it. -Try to edit the slug with the "Quick edit" button at the 'page list' page, before entering the editor. -Check your screen options (opciones de pantalla) in the upper right section of the page to see if you have all editing options enabled. If that fails (maybe one of the many installed plugins is creating a conflict), you can always create a new page with the URL you want, copy the content from your old page and set it as your new landing page (don't forget to redirect the previous page to the new one).

  • On reflection I've taken the suggested approach of using the nocontent tags for CSE and ensured all signature links are nofollow. Once again ensured bots can see the signatures due to slight concern about cloaking penalty. Thanks for your feedback.

  • Hi Jill - the thumbails linked to the full size image is fine. A Wordpress gallery would simply be doing the same thing for you.

  • Hi Juan Miguel I crawled the site with Screaming Frog SEO Spider - and here's what I found. This is a screenshot showing you what links to /contacto/estrella/ This is a screenshot showing you what links to /equipo/equis So I would; look on those pages highlighted in the screenshots look in the HTML source code for the link (you can do a control-f to search text in the HTML source code) for example I found one of the pages pointing to /equipo/equis - see the screenshot  Hope that helps! -Dan

  • OK issue resolved! Lynn thank you - was the relative url in the canonical tag that played havoc  Changing it to absolute is now causing the pages to be indexed. Lesson learnt.

  • Hi,    I had the same issue.  After setting up SEO MOZ, fixing about 400 problems, on the next crawl (after installing wordpress and transfering all our old news items across for our blog)  we had about 1,000 problems with duplicate pages (most blog pages were duplicated 50 times!!!. I've installed Yoast, had a quick go through (looks good), I think I've got it sorted I'll check again after the next crawl and see if it works and report back. It's interesting how this question is also asked in the Wordpress forums with no responses or silly comments about SEOMOZ being rubbish and not understanding how Wordpress works (or what not).

  • I expect that the brand Clarins and the link is important to follow for google.

  • I agree with Tom. Using images several times is quite common on the web and penalizing for this wouldn't make any sense. But I disagree with the fact that Googlebot cannot see images. Google's image detection is quite advanced by now and they can definitely see if an image has already been indexed (even just comparing the checksum already gives good hints). Also, Google's "search by image" shows us that this is technically possible.
