I totally agree with James!
If you are buying that domain name, then with a small effort you can get it "rank well" (it depends on niche).

Hey,
A cost effective plan would be adding an /fr/ sub-folder and target that folder to France. But if I had one possible way to build up a new website on .fr ccTLD I would go for that.
That is my pick.
I hope it helped,
Istvan
Hi Dean,
Heather is right! you should access the websites through FTP. Also if there are databases then you should be able to export the data from the software that is managing it.

Hi hfranz,
Kaushik Avinash is teaching on: http://www.marketmotive.com/
But you can learn a lot if you read the articles on http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo too.
Also the whiteboard friday videos (and lately the whiteboard+ videos) provide a lot of information regarding advanced SEO and a lot of online marketing issues you can meet in the world of SEO.
L.E.: The Whiteboard+ video can be found on: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-every-marketer-now-needs-a-google-strategy
Have fun reading and learning!

Hi Atul Sharma,
If you have a Google+ account, Go check the seoMoz Google+ account. Rand published a great Whiteboard+ there on 14th. You will find your answer in that video.

Hey Ash,
If you use a canonical in the index.html, then when you load example.com or example.com/ or etc. etc. versions you basically load the index.html (in which there is configured the canonical link).
My developer usually makes a 301 redirect from non-www. to www. and we implement to canonical link into index.html and that is it
I hope it helped,
Istvan
Hey Miranda,
I would go for one of the following:
1. usage of canonicals (link rel canonical to domain.com/jobs-in-london/)
2. the dev team could use cookies to keep trackings (I am not a developer guy, but this issue has been solved many times with cookies) - Developers please correct me if I am wrong in this.
I hope it hepled,
Istvan
Hey Explainafide,
I don't believe you can have access to their data without proper agreements from their part.
If you would have access, then you can check any of your competitors full Analytics information that way.
My advice: talk to your client. Tell him how important is in your work to have access to the GA. What you can improve with it, how you will use it. Also if he is skeptical, than go for a confidential agreement with them.
Good luck!
Istvan
Hi Pedro,
You will find your answer in this article: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/canonical-url-tag-the-most-important-advancement-in-seo-practices-since-sitemaps

just edit your post. from next time you should use URL shortener
To bad there is no place where we could brainstorm live (without being cached :P)
L.E.: seoMozzers we need a chit-chat place
YW!
I am glad i could deliver something valuable
For further question contact me via PM and will help you out. Done some similar projects in the last few months.

Hi Ade,
When targeting two very different countries then I would go for two separate websites, just as you have mentioned.
Also I would go for country specific TLDs which will help you in targeting the local markets easier. Build up country specific link partnerships, do some local SEO.
If going for only one domain you could go for a domain with different subfolders/subdomains which you geo-target for the specific countries.
If you are going for the second option, maybe you would like to check this whiteboard friday: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/international-seo-where-to-host-and-how-to-target-whiteboard-friday

Hi Rusty,
Usually when I am seeking for the entrance keywords I am checking on Google Analytics. It gives me a better retrospective. But that doesn't mean you cannot do that with seoMoz.
Still on GA sometimes I have found some quite interesting data to work with.
Istvan
I would say... Best Answer!
Great job Robert
Well,
You can have a website architecture like:
domain.com/productnamespecifickeyword.html
- okay you will need to optimize that one
and then target productnamespecifickeyword.html with links which have productnamespecifickeyword as anchor text
I hope that hepled,
Istvan
Hi Hitesh,
I would go for one domain.
Creating a lot of mini-sites maybe will help you in short term... BUT if you are going for long term, then you should focus on creating a larger websites. Focus on creating 1 page for each product and target it to the specific page.
With less effort you can benefit of link building for one domain. Don't forget to do a keyword mapping.
I hope it hepled,
Istvan
The method you are describing is not one-way, it is three way link exchange.
A -> B -> C
As fair as I know one way link exchanges are A -> B. Correct me please if I am wrong.
Istvan
Hi Rodney,
The best... Well I would say to use dedicated ccTLD for each of the target zones.
Still, if you want to go for one domain, then I would go for sub-folders (this is how we geo-target).
As fair as I know, using sub-domains is less stronger from SEO point of view, you can transfer more "juice" to sub-folders than to sub-domains.
I hope it helped,
Istvan
